Lower Providence Hosts

Regional Fire Training Day

More than 40 firefighters from multiple departments participated in a recent Regional Training Day hosted by the Lower Providence Fire Department at Station 53.

The training, coordinated in partnership with the Norristown Fire Department, focused on command and tactical operations through simulated emergency scenarios. Participants rotated through exercises designed to reflect real incidents across the region’s response areas.

Firefighters had the opportunity to take on roles such as Incident Commander and Apparatus Officer, managing responses involving multiple engine and ladder companies. The simulations included radio communication with dispatch and incoming units, helping participants sharpen coordination and decision-making skills.

Each scenario concluded with a debrief session, allowing teams to review performance and share insights. Organizers say the training is intended to strengthen collaboration among departments that frequently respond together.

Officials expressed appreciation to Giant Food Store in Audubon and Chick-fil-A on Trooper Road for providing meals during the event.

Ursinus Women’s Lacrosse Earns

Conference Win Over Dickinson

The Ursinus College women’s lacrosse team used a strong finish to secure a 9-5 victory over Dickinson College in a Centennial Conference matchup on Saturday at Biddle Field.

With the win, Ursinus improved to 7-4 overall and 1-1 in conference play, earning its first conference victory of the season. Dickinson fell to 5-5 overall and 0-2 in the conference.

Meghan Vizian led the Bears offensively with two goals and two assists, while Dana DeSiato contributed a goal and two assists, continuing her strong season. On defense, Cait Michalowski recorded three caused turnovers, and goalkeeper Addi Guthrie-Pimpinella made a career-high 10 saves to anchor the effort.

Ursinus established control early, building a 4-1 lead by halftime behind strong defensive play and efficient scoring. The Bears maintained momentum into the second half, extending their lead and holding off a late push from Dickinson.

A quick goal to open the fourth quarter helped Ursinus pull away, followed by additional scores that created separation. Despite a late response from Dickinson, Ursinus closed out the game with a final goal in the closing seconds.

The Bears held slight advantages in shots, shots on goal and draw controls, reflecting a balanced performance on both ends of the field.

Ursinus will return to action on Wednesday, April 1, when they host Washington College at 4 p.m.
